Dutch SS championship

Last sunday every self respecting singlespeeder found his or her way to Soesterberg. That was the location for the 2007 NKSS. It was a nice gathering of people from all over the country. Jelle (Singlespeed central) and his familly had put is all together and it all went of like clockwork. After 75 minutes of racing on the 1.1 km course the winners were crowned. This year there where prices in 3 catagories: Women, Old men and young men. The discussion as to where the boundry between young and old had to be drawn was held during the ceremony, in SS style of course. One thing that was noticed by most riders was the presence of several elite and amateur mtb-ers that had converted there race sleds into SS bikes. This heralds the beginning of the maturity of SS in Holland. Some of these riders even consider riding some 'normal' races on there SS-ed bikes. We all hope to see you next year!!

Saturday 3 November 2007

It's been a while since I last posted. No excuses this time. There's been a lot of thing to look forward to. Tomorrow is the NKSS (Dutch Singlespeed championships) I plan to race and not stink... Trust me that can be a task on its own! Next week, sunday to be exact, I will be hosting the second framebuilders meeting right here in my own workshop. As things are looking right now about 15 entries will come from all over the country and even one from Belgium, making it in international affair. I am looking forward to that. And still need to tigh up a lot of loose ends before next sunday.

For tomorrows race I have made the trophees. One for the winner in each class. Women, young men and old men. (I have no idea at which age one gets labeled 'old man') Besides my effort to spice things up there will be support from Singlespeed Central as well.

prêt à porter

Forget Paris. Don't even think about Milan. Le Cadre is where it's at for cool treads. Shirts, Jackets and more are coming. If you want some check my blog in a few weeks. A very talented Graphics artist is designing the stuff and the first samples look great. So if paying for a custom frame feels like passing a kitney stone but you still want to be styling, get a le Cadre shirt!

Second framebuilders meeting

The second framebuilders meeting is coming up. Everybody interested attending can enter at the dirty-pages forum: http://www.dirty-pages.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29099&
postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=225
You don't have to be a framebuilder (pro or amateur) to attend. If you have an interest and like to meet people that also like that sort of stuff you are sure to have a great time.
Please be aware it is all in Dutch language!

Website

Yes, the website is up and running. I only have to fill the Gallery with some interesting pictures. I plan to have a process folder with some pictures of the building process. (I like to look at those) And a folder with some finished frames. This Blog and the Gallery will be constantly growing. I plan to keep working on it and make it a website that keeps being interesting.
What would you like to see in my gallery?
What products would you be interested in?
Would you be interested in taking a framebuilding course?

The shape of things to come.......

This is not mine but I am working on it. In three sizes: road/track, touring, MTB.

What's up?

Family mathers are taking up a lot of time right now. But it doesn't mather right now. Floortje is doing really well and we are just proud. I did take delivery of a shipment of headbadges. (I will post pictures soon).
As far as the website goes, I hope it gets finished this month. There is a frame in the jig that also needs to get finished.
After that I can start work on shortening the orderlist. It's not a lot of work but it still needs to get done.
Oh.. next month, first weekend of September, will see the SSWC07 in Scotland. Yes, I was lucky enough to score an entrie for the race. As it turns out I am one of two Dutch entries. I am looking forward to being there for the week.

Joint Jigger

The UPS guy finally delivered my new joint jigger. This will be a big improvement on the building speed. The picture is of the current project's top tube getting mitered for the seat tube. The result is a perfect fit within a fraction of the time it used to take me doing it all by hand. Now all I need to do is find some high quality cutters.

Tomorrow I've got a whole day planned for this frame. I hope to make good progress.

Getting ready

With a couple of orders, website all most ready, graphics all most sorted out and the frame jig rebuild to my building style. I am getting ready. A bunch of tubing is to arrive any day now. The firts order will be getting a lugged and fixed commuter bike. Knowing him he will get some of the nicest part's available for this bike.
Bart (check out the Bartswerk link to the right) is re-doing my graphics. The sample's I got looked great.
Next week will also mark the arrival of my Tube Notcher. No more hand forming my mitters!! This will al be done by a machine tool and very acurate! It had to come all way from good ol' US of A. So I had to wait a little.
That's about all for now, please check in later for more updates.

progress

Progress on the 29r was slow but it has finally been finished. Also finished a lot of the business end of the frame building. First orders are in and some still pending. Tubing will arrive shortly and I will start building. Ohh... allmost forgot. I came to an agreement with my boss. I will be working four days from now on, which will leave me with more time to build. Bart Roelofs was kind enough to redesign my logo. When that is sorted out work can start on my website, T-shirts and stickers.

29r done and first pre orders in!

Wow what a couple of weeks these have been. Busy at work. Redecorating the house before the baby comes and trying to finish the 29r before sundays race. (first of the Dutch singlespeed cup) And in between everything I have gotten the first couple of pre-real start of building orders.
The 29r frame is as pictured and I still need the forks and disc brakes that will arrive before hell freezes over.......... I hope. So I will not be riding this thing on sunday. Thankfully I got plenty of offers to borrow bicycles from friends and total strangers. Thank you all for the kindness. So next sunday I will be racing a Niner that is hopefully somewhere near to my size. Thank god I am in no shape what so ever. So I can't blame it on not riding my own bicycle. A new bicycle also would not have been a good excuse because I raced to my first ever victory on a two day old bicycle.

First framebuilders meeting

Finally, last sunday the long awaited framebuilders meeting was there. About 15 souls gattered in Wageningen (NL) to meet and talk about framebuilding. Hopefully some have also caught the bug and start to build as well. I really enjoyed myself last sunday. Thank everybody!

I hope JJ didn't get his ass kicked for coming home to late!? Sorry JJ.

work in progress

After a short vacation and other things that kept me from building, I got back at it for a couple of hours.
I brazed the main frame and did a bit of cleaning. That flux is always a pain to remove.
All it needs now is more cleanup and a rear end.

I usually build the front end first. A friend of mine owns a blasting cabinet that I can use. But it isn't big enough to hold a large frame. Larger frames have to be build in two stages. Front end, that blast and rear end which I hand clean.
My friend is a good mate to have but he really needs a bigger blasting cabinet!
